Before Choosing A Moving Company
Moving is stressful and choosing a moving company can add to that stress. It is impossible to understand everything about moving and who is the best of the best. There are many different things to consider when choosing your moving company to give you a great moving experience.
Recommendations
If you have friends or family that have recently moved, ask them who they choose and why. If their answers are that we chose this specific company because they were available that day, it could be a red flag. Ask what their experience was like. Talk to them about the customer service from start to finish of the move. Find out if there was anything that they were concerned about. This is the best form of feedback for a company, they are giving you their first-hand experience.
Reviews
Online reviews or recommendations are also important. Going through Google or Yelp you don’t want to find multiple terrible reviews about a moving company. That can lead to a terrible experience. Moving is a high-risk industry and sometimes it doesn’t always go perfectly. Looking at how companies answer reviews and respond is a good indicator as well. If something were to go wrong they would be there to fix the problems and provide the dedicated customer service.
Track Record
Take a good look at the website. How long has this moving company been in business? Check out their stats and their record. If the company hasn’t been around for at least a couple of years that is another red flag. Years of service indicate that they are providing great service so that customers are coming back and recommending the services to their friends.
License & Insurance
Having valid licenses and insurance is important as well. That means that the moving company has gone through the proper channels to validate their company and providing insurance for their company as well. For interstate moves, it is required to have a license and without a license there can be a big fine and issues for anyone that is using that specific service. Being licensed and insured movers adds extra protection for the customer during the moving process for safety and reliability.
Transparent Rates
The moving services and their pricing should be broken down in an easy to understand and read format. This adds that the moving company knows what they are doing when pricing the hours/services for the move. There should be a pricing structure that can be gone over for specific pricing depending on items moved and how far. Each company is slightly different, but if the rates seem really low. Make sure to research and check out their website for additional information and reviews to verify they are a reputable company.
Specific to Your Needs
Different moving companies offer different services. Some may be for short quick moves and others can be for across the country moves. Only pay for the services that you need. Check to see if the moving company can do exactly what you need without added costs. Some companies like us are able to customize the type of move that you need based on what you need to move and what your price point is.
Rogue Movers
Going through all of this information can help aid in not using rogue movers. These are “companies” that say they can move you and just rent a truck and show up. They would not have the proper licenses and insurances to provide to you and chances are that they are not professional nor do they have the proper experience or background to be completing your move.
Using any tips and recommendations for finding the perfect mover is important and can turn a very stressful move into a breeze. Going with the cheapest isn’t always the best, do your research and feel confident in the choice to help you start with the next chapter.
